How Do You (Not) Want To Be Remembered?

I have been thinking about how a person would like to be remembered after he/she died ever since now and then, what people going to remember about us is actually a set of tool of self reflection to drive our common cause towards greater good (or bad).

People probably remember us by what we have done and accomplished, by our ranks, our wealth, and our attitude, our failures and successes. People also may forgetting us because we are lack of those credentials. But that’s not the exact point I’d like to share, the point is that whatever you’ve done will become a trace for better or worse, your everlasting mark whether you like it or not, your true eternal title whether it was given or earned.

There is a greater thing than wanting to be remembered by our accomplishment, that is to be remembered by our dreams, our means instead our ends, our wars instead our victories, our paths instead of our destination. Our end will shape our means, our dreams will lead us there, our hope is our guidance, for not giving up and giving in against any obstacles that lies ahead.  Even when you never reached your goal, you’ll be remembered as someone who eager to get there at your best, at that moment titles are worthless, achievements are meaningless, your worth is when you perspire, not when you acquire. It is the practice that is more important not the result, because results without ongoing practice will become obsolete, but continuing your practice habit surely will deliver you the expected result, and keep you updated.

So you might ask, ‘is it not good to have achievements?’, I say it’s great to have achievements, people are move towards achievements, but the more important thing is how your achievements were made? Did you earn it or did you just taken it for granted?

Yes, your achievement is your credentials, your fancy words to be proudly presented in your CV, but the most important thing is that you have the responsibility along with those credentials, you also will be judged by others based on your titles, and you must be able to prove it.

OK, back in our topic… Write what you have in mind of what you want to become and others to be remembered, say you want to be the Most Successful Entrepreneur, or an Advisor for world leaders, or a humanitarian without borders, or backpacking traveler around the globe, or whatever. Write what you want to be and rephrase it to yourself  all the time as often as possible. Better yet, print them in large scale paper, and pin them in your bedroom wall so you can see it before you sleep.  Those words will guide you there and people will remember you just like the way you wanted to be.

So, how do you want (or not) to be remembered?
